There were the drinks, especially the ones that incorporated tea. They were the vinyl record player nights, where they gave away great vinyl records and which was the impetus for me to start my own vinyl collection.
They were the infamous karaoke nights, that finally got me out of my shell, but only after I learned how to sing. There are a lot of things that made Diamond Jim’s Saloon such a special place and gave it such importance in my life. I’m guessing most people will be in the latter camp.
If you find they make no sense, feel free to skip them. If you are so inclined, feel free to enjoy them. I’ve always been an avid gardener and a huge tea drinker and I love writing stories about both. That’s why you will read about tea on here, one of the biggest loves of my life, as well as gardening. It’s all going to be kind of mixed together, but I can do that since it’s my site and, like I said, no one will ever read it. I don’t have another website, so I will just publish everything here and kind of connect it to my memories with the saloon a little bit. A lot about music, my love of tea and, of cource, LBGTQ issues. Some of it will be memories from the my favorite bar ever, but a lot of the articles will just be the kind of crazy and out-there stuff I’ve always enjoyed writing. Mostly this site will just serve for my own inner ramblings. I welcome any and all interesting and/or crazy tales. If you have your own stories from the saloon, feel free to get in touch with me and perhaps we can tell some of your stories on the site as well. For those that do, I hope you have the same fond memories that I do and I hope my site can reawaken them to some extent. I don’t expect many readers, but a few other fans of Diamond Jim’s may find this site. I noticed that the domain name was available, so I purchased it and decided to make this site, to keep my memories alive. I was recently looking at a lot of my old photos from that time of my life and just started feeling incredibly nostalgic. I’ve been to a lot of gay bars and clubs, but none can ever compare to Diamond Jim’s. I have incredibly fond memories of that place. I used to go to Diamond Jim’s Saloon all the time when I first came out and had some of the best nights of my life there. They shut down their website a long time ago and I have simply decided to resurrect the page as a fansite. This website has no actual affiliation with Diamond Jim’s Saloon in Detroit.
